Back on Track

Pardon my absence, it's been a long while since I posted, and much has been happening.

On the film front, I'm a part of two features this summer.  The first show is a collaboration with CNGM, and the other is as for now to be unspoken of, they should both be fun.  I'm D.P. on the first one and I'm helping out as 1st A.C. on the next.  It's a good team and I'm excited to get started.

Production on the music video for God Awful Mess still continues.  We are looking to be wrapped up a week from tomorrow.  This is the first chance I've gotten to direct since our first movies back in the fall.

On a cool note, Jeff Garland came to our school today for a little talk and a really entertaining Q and A that was as informative as it was hilarious.  He acts to pay for making movies, everyone's got to pay the bills.  If you have a chance to see him he's at The Second City tomorrow and Monday.

I have more to write, but I'm going to work out because it's on the schedule I've made for myself and it hasn't failed me yet.  I used to think I didn't have enough time to finish everything, now I wonder what took so long.  Laters.

What a Difference a Day Makes

It's truly amazing to see how much things can change in one day.  I'm spending tomorrow trying to find a new place to live for a while, but everything else has begun to correct itself.

I wouldn't have been able to deal without my friends.  I never felt as loved as I did today when I sat at a table and heard each one tell me I could stay with them until I figured things out.  I have never encountered people more generous, more caring, and more loyal.

I would never have met any of these people had I not gone to Flashpoint.  I would like to thank everyone at FPA for constantly changing the way I view the world.  A more nurturing and productive environment does not exist on any other campus in the world.

I know it's corny, and ever so slightly cheesy, but until today I thought I was numb.  I thought it was never going to get better and I was going to deal with that.

Yesterday I was lost, today I am found.

What a difference a day makes.

Good Night All.

Quicksand

No matter what happens, it all seems to happen the same.  I'm so desensitized to pain now that I'm neither surprised nor disappointed that I find myself in the position I'm in.

I haven't quite processed everything, so this is all for now, I just wanted to make sure I got on here and put something out into the universe.

I am happy and grateful, and ready for a change.  I feel as though I'm becoming the person I'm supposed to, I just didn't expect it to be this hard.

Goodnight world, tomorrow's a brand new day.

I Love Productivity

Nothing brings me more pleasure and satisfaction than a day well spent.

We are in the midst of a viral video competition at FPA, and we've just finished shooting all of our footage.  I'm going to edit the pieces together tomorrow and we're going to submit them after we've sent them to our awesome sound engineer Jeremy Patrick Hoen.

Often, and especially lately, I get so caught up in what I'm doing that I fail to stop and take a breath.  One can only push in this manner for so long before one becomes burnt out.  With only 5 weeks remaining in my first year at the Academy, I felt compelled to reflect on my time there.  Recently I've been feeling as though I have nothing left.  Not to say I'd lost my drive, only that it felt like I was driving in circles.  It's experiences like today though that remind me just how fond I am of filmmaking.  I love to direct, but cinematography is my passion and I am even more confused about what discipline I want to go into within my department.  At the end of the day though, if all I have to worry about is deciding between two equally equally fulfilling career paths, then Flashpoint Academy is doing it's job.

We compiled a team of 5, the usual suspects, and our actor Jor'don Hodges (Fraternity House).  We barely spoke for nearly 8 hours as we knocked out shot after shot after shot.  It was truly a beautiful thing.  I'll add pictures to a slideshow soon so you can see everything we rigged and some accidentally epic production stills.

I'll fill you in on more details as we tighten things up, for now it'll just have to be a surprise.

Whenever I feel like I can't muster any more energy, my friends always help me back up.  Today was no different.  Today would not have happened without Dorian Weinzimmer and Dan Meincke.  Dorian is the epitome of cool and poise, and I realized tonight that there isn't any aspect of our training as filmmakers that Dan is not extremely proficient at.  I hope that I can be as clutch for them as they are for me.

So, that's the end of tonight/this morning's journey through the life and times of Danny Crook.  Danny Crook, a name you can trust :)

Heard it First

I'm tossing my hat in ladies and gentleman.  You're reading the first post of my first blog.  I really wanted to try and open up the shop with a bang, but I think it's safer for everyone if we consider this a soft opening, rather than a grand one.

What you'll find here is everything that I can possibly think of.  Actually that isn't true, what you will find herein is all the things that I hope everyone will find interesting to read.  I don't want to know everything you think about, just as I imagine you feel about the goings on of my brain hamster.  For those of you who are interested in brain hamsters, I have named mine Isaac.  I chose this name above all others so that if one were to attempt to decipher it's origin, they would ultimately have to decide whether I fancy Hayes or Newton.  Either way I'd laugh
(for you see Isaac means "laughter," but don't tell any of the people researching it's origins).

Sweet! I've just rambled on for a whole paragraph, now I feel like a real blogger.

All this and more can be yours if you stick around, I hope you all stay tuned!
